the doors of old zanzibar are really amazing... obviously they were
design to keep out marauding pirates, slave traders and assorted
mercenaries... every courtyard has two thick heavily studded doors to
the outside world ... most villas have no lower storey windows... they
present the street, and outside world with a high wall... a domestic
fortress
