makan angin

makan angin means literally "eat wind" and its a common way for an indonesians to say I'm not going to tell you what I'm doing, I'm just going for a stroll (to eat the wind)... no further correspondance will be entered into...

other times, people might go looking for the wind... cari angin

so whilst I've been away sorry, I'm back now but I'm not telling where or when... so you'll have to taste the wind... but I am sorry my last few email posts did not make it into this blog... bloody technology again..!! I might try and rescue a couple and repost them later.

... glad to see this post worked :)

getting carried away with colour

a warm up sketch of eric's wife

biatch posses in full colour

I haven't got around to sketching quiet a few of the regular'sfrom big bellied adies chat room and erics missus was one that I should have sketched sooner... I liked the shading in my chinesse ink sketch... but then I got distracted by techincal stuff like being booted and I ended up with a very colourful underpainting... but I just love the colour

the yrret sitings....

a more reclining terry trying out her new swivel chair

I'm getting the hang of the chinesse ink... and even doing it wet on wet now... it dries with much more delicate tonal range than i imagined.... richer darks and still detail in the lighter washed areas... gives the sketches a very delicate touch.

Using brush & ink

Panther & her kitten
panther & cuddles her pussy

back to sketching off the web... it is good therapy for my malaise & fun... to get myself started i just bought some chinesse ink sticks, a brush and a stone... love the tones i can get... only problem is i'm using standard office paper and it soon get saturated.... not so easy to get detail... the results are nice and delicate, but unfortunately a little crinkled when they dry.

Finding some humanity in art

I've been so busy I didn't realise my accommodation run out yesterday... luckily they can extend a few days... but I went looking for somewhere close to the office... walking distance... preferably on changi road... didn't find anywhere but I did find some sections of the old world war two changi prison... it might have been re-located.., anyway it contains a series of amazing murals.. they have been repainted based on some originals painted by a british prisoner of war

The caption for the mural of saint luke, sort of sums up my feelings of the profiteers and con-artists swarming all over the well intentioned relief agents trying to come to grips with the horrific effects of the tsunami... and especially for those directly effected, homeless, overwhelmed and still largely alone... in a wide open prison... just without walls... infact with much left standing

"Father forgive them for they know not what they do"

I was chatting with terry just the night before and she was encouraging me to get back to sketching... and art as a way to forget the horror... good advice and well tried here in singapore during another possibly even more horrific event... this was such a coincidence

Sorry if my blog remains silent for a while longer

it has been a long, tough race... we actually finished... a great achievement... becoming a great team in the process, filled with both courage to stay in there and confidence in each other to do it

not surprisingly I have been summoned back to singapore... an assignment that might take some time and even more courage... the devastation of the south east asian tsunami is beyond comprehension

sad news from the solomons

an australian policeman was shot dead by a sniper in honiara.... i
know how much this will shake the optermism of a wonderful group of
islanders... and plunge them back into a darkness of fear... i onlt
trust this is an unfortunate isolated incident...sad and horrible as
it is

Working from a photo

After the nude sitting I went and down loaded one of bell's profile photos... this time I tired to stay loose and let the wash show me where the detail should be... i'm pleased by this one... i feel it capture bells bright personality better than the photo, which is good by the way

A radiant look in watercolour

Original Photo

The belle sitting...

Newfie bell had requested another sitting last week... this time in the nude... we had a great time trying to figure out how to get a model posed remotely and well lit... the results were great... and the session a lot of fun... the poses are very artistic now that the paint has dried a real tribute to a wonderful model

a special thanks to bell's mum... who helped with some of the technical stuff like lighting and joining in the fun

House keeping in cyberspace

I don't know if you noticed but the number of daily visitors has significantly increased... unfortunately it is not due to my fame, or talent... just that I have put this web address in two web log directories blogwise & blogarama.. the are kind of like the yellow pages for all the personal outpouring that is web logging... sadly there is not an originality category... then again there aren't many original web logs.. if you are interested in what complete strangers are thinking and doing try looking up subjects that interest you and enrich your day...

another helper i have for this site is a software robot called blogbot, from hello, it/he helps me find scanned sketches and uploaded them to the blogspot site... the best bit is he, and I'm sure he's a he... 'cause he says so little... the best bit is he write the html code to display with a lower resolution version displayed on the blog but a higher resolution version behind it.

you simply need to click on an image you like and you can will see a higher resolution version displayed

I was joking about the house keeping chores, i like web logging.. with a few little automated helpers it takes care of itself and doesn't take up room in my kit bag.
