I like to champion originality and creativity on the net... i worry it seems to be waning... BUT I came across carolyn's great website art for engineers... don't be discouraged by the title (ok some of you guys might have got excited, but put your tools away... ok the screwdiver & spanners) its well worth a slow and considered viewing

Carolyn's lines are beautifully sensual, and simple... yet strong & passionate, but it is her use of colour and control over watercolour that is amazing, very translucent and perfect for her art that weaves in and out of various erotica themes...and poetry... (she even uses lots of ellipsis... like me! which I am lead to believe shows she has faith in her readers)... you can even own her work at very reasonable prices.... he most compelling reason to visit her site, is her own admission "I'm just a lady who loves to draw too. ;)"

I must I've really got into the rolf harris star portrait show...it is totally fascinating watching different artists tackling the same subject applying very difference techniques and approaches... Give a self taught old bloke a bit more confidence... and a little less inhibition to share my muddled techniques... and how i might approach sketch someone new

I generally start with some quick pencil work,... maybe a preliminary layout sketch... then something with soft pencil wher i rub in the graphic to define the shade and form... i often do a few of these

Then I might get out the watercolours and try building up the same form and shade using washes

Whilst looking through my sketchbooks I came across a bit os nostalgia... prtraits of me by a former girlfriend (Suzi, she is the lady that encouraged m,e to become net literate and look to the net for inspiration for the on-line cartoon bar idea.... hmm still in planning)... anyway shw was a delight full of energy and always creating things. The biro sketch is a diidle she did on the first day we meet. The paper cutout was about my inner self... the clown!.... she often did cut-outs as a "party trick", and seldom took longer than a minute or too.

the thrill of new shoes

Being a bloke I guess I can not appreciate the excitement of a new pair of shoes... but i can worship in line the curve of the ankle... the lifting of the arch and the emphasis of legs ascending above... art is easy to find

I will have to admit I have been glued to the TV, the past two tuesdays... & i'm not normally much of a tv watcher... I am truely fascinated by Rolf Harris's Start Portraits... this week one of the artists (charlie wells) worked directly onto his computer screen with his touchpad... amazing... looks like fun

I've come across a marvelous new "toy" in flickr called geotagging which means I can store the location of my sketches so you can then click on the link, like the one below, and it will take you to a map (or satellite image, if you prefer) and show you the exact location (well within a few meters)

A friend returns

It appears that the art on flickr debate is still rummbling around blogspace... basically if you post art (not photos) on flickr you will be quickly flagged NIPSA (Not Suitable for Public Access)... not nude, or even rude drawings... any drawings!... monksyle's blog and attached comments gives a good overview of this..

Meanwhile flickr is filling to the gills with porn images stolen from other websites... not to mention photos of everything and ANYTHING... most with no merit, photographic or artistic... so something stinks for sure but hey that's life!

is there a conspiracy here, in the blogsphere, by a dark force wanting to control, and then make us pay to view anything that has SEX or NUDE in the keywords... or is it just childish behaviour?

Any regular readers will remember my angst when my sites where mucked up. That taught to me ignore the self optionated and ignorant... even when they play childish hacking games... I can still to see the beauty in my art, naked or not... such is life (C'est la vie)

A Collabortative Internet Art Monifesto

We propose to create a collaborative set of internet art works, that include many people's contributing at different levels (or layers) to each work.

This art will prove that the internet does not just spawn plagiarism, copyist celebrity, and the boredom of me_to'ism, that there is room of creativity, originality and life.

The final art must be the collaborative work of more than one person (ie a composite image of some form, like a mosaic or collage). This is an early work from the CAF [Collaborative Art on Flickr] project... it is a photomosaic made with a program called AndreaMosaic and consists of tiles created from photos and sub images submitted to that project... it pleases me that I can produce a fresh richness to an already great work of art... whilst it is based on one of gaugain's most famous self portraits... I am sure this is not plagiarism... it is homage and inspiration... but I was suddenly turned cold when a friend said is was an extra ordininary rendition... then I realized she was talking about art, and not the moral bankruptcy and spin doctoring of some governments... viva l'art

I have been able to collate a lot.... and their is a lot... of my sketching development over the past 5 years recently... these sketches are amongst the oldest sketches i have... they were all done from life in dark low lit places late a night... but the important thingh is they inspired me to do more than illustrative cartoon.... which lead to experimenting with different media... and even to begin this adventure following gaugain's bold objective "à la recherche decstasy, de calme, et lart."

Today is a great day for conspiracy theories...(06-06-2006)... but thats onlt the beginning of it... i was minding my own business, well discussing an upcoming collabortative artist's manifesto for net real artistist.. I have been boring others with this a lot lately (it will be blogged about soon enough so don't panic)... when I was confronted with the angry retort "You're just a discordinan and don't know it"... well I didn't know if i was, so i asked politely while ducking punches... a delightfully attractive witness in the coffee shop later slipped me this link
